In this post i am going to show you how to make poha at home.

When it comes to quick and easy breakfast recipe, poha always comes to my mind.
I am from Maharashtra and Poha is a kinda signature breakfast recipe of maharashtra, like Idli/dosa is for north india.
Poha is also considered as healthy breakfast option but I dont think its ideal breakfast for weight loss.
My ideology behind this bold statement is that, the main ingredient of poha is flattened rice or some also calls it beaten rice and rice is not considered good for weight loss.
Whatever the case maybe but I love Poha. I love it so much that I am regularly enjoying it even when i am venture of weight loss. Though poha do provide more than enough energy to kick start your day and it’s easy to make and it also requires very less ingredients.
It’s also a very versatile recipe. It has two variations. Some people make it sweet and some don’t.
Though whatever variation you like, the recipe didn’t change very much.
You just have to exchange one ingredient i.e. you just have to add sugar instead red chilli powder to make it sweet.
Its very versatile recipe also because you can add whatever vegetables you like in it.
It can go well with anything whether it is aloo, cauliflower, green peas or even eggs.
And you know what adding eggs in poha is my favourite.
I don’t know who invented this recipe (this egg poha), but as far as I know I enjoyed it first time at my friend’s college canteen and needless to say I fell in love with it because it was like a dream combination for me i.e. Protein + whatever.
I will definitely share egg poha recipe on this blog and I know if you are protein hunter just like me then you are definitely going to love it.
Coming back to the point, in this post I am going to show you simple traditional poha recipe, which is not going to be sweet because it’s Tasty and Zesty nation and as I said earlier if you want it sweet you can easily make it by simply excluding red chilli powder and adding sugar instead.
Poha is a very simple and easy to make recipe but it also has a tricky part which comes at the starting of the recipe.
When you soak the flatten rice or beaten rice, keep checking the flakes continuously.
Depending on the type of the flaten rice, it will get soft sooner or later.
Usually it does not take more than 2-3 minutes to get the flatten rice soft.
After the soaking, wash and rinse the rice couple of times and then keep it aside for at least 10 minutes.
In the meantime you can do other preparations like chopping vegetable etc because its a breakfast recipe and most of us don’t have time to wait in the morning and we should try to get most out of it.
After the soaking, rest of the recipe is pretty simple and it get done in one pot.
Also while serving the poha recipe, you can garnish it with dry grated coconut. And it really tasts good with crispy sev. I have a very interesting story behind this sev and poha combo.
Again it was in my college canteen I first started enjoying poha with a packet of aloo sev, then my gang started doing the same and ultimately it became common to eat poha with sev.
I certainly increased a lot of sales for the college canteen.
Regardless you add sugar or not I will advise you to enjoy this recipe with lemon juice, it really makes a difference.
